Sourdough is a quirky, very easy-reading fiction about technology, food, culture, San Francisco, with some magical elements thrown in. It has the feeling of a really broadly appealing story – I recommended it to my mom, and would recommend it to my teenager cousins, too.
I think Robin Sloan does this really well: books that are original, engaging, and thought-provoking while being extremely accessible. It plays with the ideas of commercialization, tech, and culture in a way that feels really Californian to me, but without being completely bought into any specific ideology.
